Native English-speaking teachers

Our bilingual programme is supported by a large team of native English-speaking teachers. Each member of the team teaches in their specific area of expertise and/or graduate study.

 

Bryan Avery (USA) holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Having lived in Europe, Asia, Central America and various states within the US, Mr Avery has acquired extensive inter-cultural skills. Since moving to Austria in 2004, he has transferred his natural training skills to teaching English as a native-English speaker. He has taught for the Stadtschulrat für Wien, under the Europa Büro Präsidialabteilung, initiating an EU-sponsored pilot project exploring future bilingual programmes in Vienna. The wide range of students Mr Avery has taught include recent university graduates and bank executives; Bundesheer officers and OEBB management; and school children from pre-school to Matura. Mr Avery joined the international class/bilingual teaching team in November 2011.

James Brown (UK) holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Recreation Programmes with Recreation Studies. Since moving to Vienna, his focus has been on sport coaching, personal training and English teaching. His many professional qualifications include a Football Association teaching certificate and an introductory coach education award. Mr Brown is also a qualified snowboard instructor and regularly instructs on our school’s winter sport weeks. In 2008, Mr Brown joined the bilingual teaching team and is responsible for bilingual education in our Sport department.

Andrew Charlewood (UK) holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Popular Music. An active composer and musician, he has been working in the Austrian school system since 2002. His professional experience includes English, Music and Biology teaching. He has also worked at the Lower Austria camp for highly gifted pupils. Mr Charlewood joined the international class/bilingual teaching team in 2007 and was responsible for introducing bilingual education to our Music department. He has become an invaluable supporter of musical events within the school, where he can be regularly seen and heard performing on bass guitar.

Rebecca Kmentt (UK) holds a Master of Arts Degree in History and European Literature. Her teaching career began in 1992. She is a qualified bilingual educator and has played a central role in the implementation of the international class/bilingual teaching programme at BG Klosterneuburg. This year, 2011, she took over the teaching of European Studies at our school and continues to teach History and Political Education. She is a member of the IB staff and is teaching our first candidates for the IB Diploma in History. Mrs Kmentt is Coordinator of the Native English-Speaking Teacher Team and Deputy Coordinator of the International Baccalaureate Programme. Another exciting and challenging new role for her this year is as University Counsellor for the UK and USA.

Mrs Kmentt teaches History and Political Education in our bilingual classes and European Studies as an optional course for all our Upper School pupils.

Isabel Krampla (UK) holds a Diploma in Occupational Therapy. From 1995 to 2000, she was head of department in this field at the Wilhelminenspital. Over the last 10 years she has gained extensive English teaching experience working in and initiating various children’s groups within the local community. Mrs Krampla has been responsible for introducing bilingual education to the Volksschule Kritzendorf, where she has worked since 2007. Rejoining our team in 2010, Mrs Krampla continues to provide teaching support in English in the Lower School.

Sean Menzies (Canada) studied Religious Studies at Laurentian University, Ontario. A former youth social worker in Vancouver, he started his language-teaching career when he moved to Austria in 1999. Mr Menzies worked as a teacher to speakers of other languages (TESOL) at the Cambridge Institute in Vienna from 2001 to 2010. He joined the international class/bilingual teaching team in 2009 and currently teaches Religious Education and English. This year Mr Menzies introduced a coaching programme to prepare our most advanced students for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). This qualification tests academic language proficiency and is jointly offered by Cambridge University and the British Council. In his leisure time, Mr Menzies enjoys training in Shaolin Kung Fu and also offers courses in this discipline at our school.

Mr Menzies teaches Religious Education and English in our bilingual classes. In addition, he prepares pupils for the IELTS exam and offers Shaolin Kung Fu as an extra-curricular activity.

Monica Mishra (India) holds a Master of Science Degree in Biology and an Advanced Diploma in Computer Sciences. She has extensive experience in teaching and enhancing students' appreciation of science and has an enormous interest in Physics, Biology and Science in general. She joined the international class/bilingual teaching team in 2007 and was responsible for introducing bilingual education to the Physics department at BG Klosterneuburg. Mrs Mishra enjoys using different methods and mediums to deliver course material.

Lori Renna Linton (USA) holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary English Education. She qualified as a teacher in the State of New York in 1995. Over the last 15 years she has acquired extensive teaching experience in both the private and public sectors. She joined the international class/bilingual teaching team in 2008 and is actively involved in developing the English language and literature programme for our bilingual students in both the Lower and Upper Schools. At our school she also provides oral language-skills coaching in English to individual pupils of the IB Diploma.

Mrs Renna Linton teaches English in our bilingual classes.

Melissa Scherer (Singapore) holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry and a Post-graduate Diploma in Education. Whilst in Singapore, she was head of science at primary school level and held the position of project manager for a year-long school and industry project on the implementation of IT in Singapore schools. She joined the international class/bilingual teaching team in 2007, and currently teaches Mathematics and Religious Education. Mrs Scherer also works at the Volkschule Kierling, where she has been responsible for introducing a bilingual programme. In addition to her teaching commitments, Mrs Scherer is pursuing a diploma course to become an expert in the education of highly gifted students.
